Columbo and the Case of the Incomplete Layout

Go check out today’s post on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog to see how this layout looked before I tapped into a little design help from my friends on the team. And to find out what in the world Detective Columbo has to do with it!

2014 Books Read – a CKC design team enhanced layout

2014 books read redo

Story:
“2014 was a very good year, for books, more than 2 dozen, in fact!
My favorites – like the Harry Bosch series - are pictured larger.”

Style: My layout started with some leftovers of my July Counterfeit Kit and a go-to design of mine that divided the page in half.  I knew there were lots of bold colors in the book covers.  Red and black are staples of crime novel covers.  So I chose to use calming colors for the background.  After all, I read to relax, even if I read mysteries and thrillers.  I used just a spritz of every blue and green shade I had, plus a bit of yellow.  I purposely made the numbers in my journaling a smidgen larger to tie into the large numerals at the side of the collage.

Stash: Stampin Up resist cardstock and patterned paper, Studio Calico Mr. Huey mists, patterned paper and wood arrows, American Crafts Scrabble® tiles, Teresa Collins and Twine & Ink enamel dots, Recollections flair, Cricut – A Child’s Year cartridge die-cut, CK Ali’s Hand font, Becky Higgins washi tape, stash brad.

Yes, it's worth a try with a little help from my friends . .

  1. That's a whole lot of crime novels...have you got a darker side you aren't telling us about?

  4. I love your layout about the books you read last year. I've done layouts about the fact that I'm a reader, but never about the actual books I've read. Thanks for the idea!! Your spritzed background looks great too. I need to use my paints more.
